What Every Psychologist/Counselor Needs to Know

Live Course • May 8th, 2020 • 12pm MDT / 11am PDT

This Introductory-Level course discusses thorough assessment, accurate diagnosis, relational focus, and ethical treatment choices for clinicians. Up-to-date nosology using DSM-V, ICD-11, AFUD and ICSM will be presented.

Course Description

Many clinicians don’t feel comfortable bringing up sexual issues in the therapy room. As a result, a significant portion of men with sexual problems get ignored or trivialized. Do you want to be more confident in pinpointing and diagnosing sexual problems accurately?

Psychological impacts of male sexual problems affect a significant portion of the treatment seeking population in therapy offices. Identifying sexual health issues often falls on mental health professionals, along with the decision to determine whether the issue can be treated in the office, or needs a referral to another health care provider.

This course provides up-to-date and scientifically substantiated information on current diagnostic issues for Male Sexual Dysfunctions.

Erectile Disorder, Premature Ejaculation, Delayed Ejaculation and Male Hypoactive Sexual Disorder will be highlighted. Special Populations such as teenagers and older men, as well as psychosexual outcomes of circumcision will be discussed.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the differences in major sources of nosology for male sexual problems
  • Assess whether the clinician is being presented with a dysfunction, disorder, discomfort or distress about a sexual problem
  • Assess and diagnose several male sexual disorders and their psychological outcomes
  • Discuss the role of psychotherapy and psychoeducation in the treatment of male sexual dysfunction
  • Assess vulnerabilities of special populations such as teen males and older males
