This intermediate-level course includes lecture, discussion, clinical vignettes, and psychosexual skill exercises. Dr. Barry McCarthy, Clinical Psychologist, Diplomate in Sex Therapy and Certified Couple Therapist, will explore sexual myths, dysfunctions, treatment models and ethical considerations that he has encountered during his extensive practice of 42 years.

Course Description

Couples’ sexual issues are one of the most frequent presenting problems in therapy offices. The couple challenge, regardless of relationship status or sexual orientation, is to integrate intimacy and eroticism into the relationship, while reinforcing a new sexual mantra of desire/pleasure/eroticism/ satisfaction. To achieve this outcome, Dr. McCarthy will present his theoretical approach as well as clinical applications of it for couples’ work.

Healthy sexuality is a combination of responsibility for one’s authentic sexual self and being an intimate sexual team. This course will motivate therapists in empowering couples towards a satisfying and secure sexual relationship.
